There are a lot of candles sold! They are sold for their scents, beauty, and many other purposes. It is a competative business and I am sure success depends on finding a niche and making candles that appeal to a certain kind of buyer. I think The Candle Collection is a name that would work well for an established candle shop that wants to develop an online sales program.
The potential for such a program can be seen by looking at all the candles for sale on Ebay. As I write this, there are almost 200 auctions for handmade candles alone.
If I were doing this I would use Ebay for market research. I would see what varieties of candles are most popular and look at the number being sold and their prices. I would set up TheCandleCollection.com as my website, install shopping cart software and load it with the products I thought would sell. I would add the name to all my print advertising.
I would also make sure I had at least one item for sale at all times on Ebay. Links to your website are not allowed in the auction listing itself, but you can include one on your "Me" page. In this way you would encourage people who like your candles to visit your website where they can see all your offerings.
